KYS 2009-’10 Basketball
Knox Youth Sports basketball is a recreational program whose primary purpose is to develop the basketball skills of girls and boys age 4 to 12. We make a considerable effort to organize leagues that have parity among the teams. Our hope is that each player entering every game knows he or she has a chance to win, that the score in all games will be close, and that teams win about the same number of games as they lose.

To enhance the development of our players through increased playing time, we will limit our roster size, will add minutes to games, and will add more games to each schedule this season!

All players are guaranteed and required to play at least 50 percent of each game. Playing requirements may be relaxed for a player if that player continually misses practices and/or games and in cases of bad behavior or conduct. In such cases, KYS will allow coaches to restrict a player’s court time.

Children who plan to tryout for a school team, but want to play with KYS if they don’t make their school’s squad, should still send in the registration form. (Note: Registrations must be received by Oct. 16, 2009, to assure your child will be placed on a team.)

Gyms/Workout Sessions/Season
All games will be played at Webb School, Deane Hill Rec Center, West Hills Elementary School, Rocky Hill School, and the James Agee Gym at West High School.

Registrants (except 4 coed, 5 coed, 5 boys, and girls 8-under) MUST attend in order to be drafted to teams. Sessions will be used to familiarize players with the fundamentals of the game and for coaches to evaluate players prior to the draft. Sessions will be held Nov. 1 at Deane Hill Rec Center. Players will be notified about when to attend. The season will last from early December to no later than early March 2010. Practice will begin in November. Most games are played on weekends.

Registration Fees/Scholarships
4- and 5-year-old coed: $110 All other leagues: $155

If KYS does not receive either payment by the time teams are formed or if you have not paid for your child's registration for a prior KYS sports season, you child will not be on a team. If your family cannot pay the entire sum, scholarships are available. In order to qualify for a scholarship, please send a letter of request explaining your hardship. In any case, all registration forms must be accompanied by either payment of a fee or a letter of request. All requests for scholarships will be kept confidential. If KYS does not receive either payment or scholarship request by the time teams are formed or if you have not payed for your child’s registration for a prior KYS season, your child will not be on a team.
